It usually takes six hours to complete the 11-kilometer trail to Machame Camp. While the cook prepares your dinner in the evening, the porters will boil water for drinking and washing. You will start a strenuous hike to Lava Tower, which is 4,630 meters away, after breakfast at Shira Camp. The 11-kilometer hike through rocky, semi-desert terrain takes seven to eight hours. Before descending to Barranco Camp at 3,960 meters, enjoy a panoramic lunch at Lava Tower. Beautiful views of the Western Breach can be seen during the roughly two-hour descent. The crew will set up your tents and make dinner when you get to Barranco Camp. In order to get you ready for the adventures ahead, your guide will give you an overview of the trek the following day in the evening.

After a brief rest, you’ll continue your journey to Barafu Camp, climbing through diverse terrain and breathtaking scenery. Upon arrival in Barafu, the porters will set up camp while you rest and eat dinner prepared by our chef. In the evening, your guide will inform you about the upcoming summit attempt. Rest well, as the final ascent will begin later in the night.

The weather will determine how long you can stay at the summit, so don’t stay too long because it’s cold and you’re tired. Other attractions include the Silalei Swamp, rock hills, a wide variety of wildlife, and the Tarangire River, which is home to numerous animals during the dry season when other water sources have dried up. Drive through the Ngorongoro region to the Serengeti National Park, then go on an afternoon game drive.
With an area of 14,763 square kilometers, Serengeti is one of Tanzania’s largest national parks. It is home to a wide variety of wildlife and is one of the few places where you can see the Big Five, numerous carnivores, and birds of prey. The name “Serengeti” is derived from the Maasai word “Siringeti,” which means “endless plains” due to the southern grass plains that seem to go on forever with the scene of the concentration of wildebeest and zebras during the great migration. Savor the day in the Serengeti National Park’s plains.
Accommodation: Moyo Tented Camp
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After a safari game drive through Serengeti National Park, spend the night in Ngorongoro.
There aren’t many national parks in Africa that compare to the Serengeti in terms of animal diversity and quantity. Observe the yearly zebra and wildebeest migrations. Use the expansive vistas to see elephants, giraffes, buffalo, impala, and kongoni, as well as predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, and spotted hyenas. One of nature’s most thrilling sights is a hunt, if you’re lucky. With flat-topped acacia trees silhouetted against the setting sun and numerous other iconic pictures of African safaris, you’ll be in awe of its beauty at every turn.

Go on a safari game drive by descending the crater floor. You probably won’t soon forget your initial impression of Ngorongoro Crater. One of Africa’s most stunning natural features is this enormous and cozy natural bowl, which can be seen from the crater rim. Before arriving at this UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is home to the Big Five mammals—the lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo—one can observe wild animals in their natural habitats. Alkaline Lake Magadi, which is home to millions of flamingos, pelicans, herons, storks, lapwings, ducks, and geese, will also be visible. Discover the Lerai Forest, which is home to zebras, wildebeests, gazelles, common elands, and many other creatures, as well as the Ngoitoktok water springs, which are home to hippopotamuses.

A typical 10-day itinerary combines a Kilimanjaro climb, usually via popular routes such as Machame, Lemosho, or Marangu, with a Northern Circuit safari in Tanzania. The safari portion often visits Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and sometimes Tarangire National Park. This combination provides a mix of high-altitude adventure and wildlife viewing.
Typically, 6–7 days are allocated for the Kilimanjaro trek, including acclimatization, summit, and descent. The remaining 3–4 days are spent on safari exploring Tanzania’s parks like Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. Some itineraries may adjust these days depending on the chosen trekking route.
During the trek, climbers stay in mountain huts or tented camps along the route. On safari, accommodations range from luxury lodges to tented camps with en-suite facilities, fine dining, and panoramic views of wildlife areas.
Pack layered clothing suitable for high-altitude trekking, including warm jackets, hats, gloves, hiking boots, and a sleeping bag. For the safari, bring lightweight neutral-colored clothing, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, binoculars, and a camera. Don’t forget any medications, travel documents, and malaria prophylaxis.
