On the first day of your 4-day Mount Meru trek, you will be picked up from your hotel in Arusha (1400 m) and taken to the Momella Gate in Arusha National Park after an early breakfast. Porters will prepare and pack your belongings for the hike, while you and your guide register with Tanzania National Park (TANAPA). You will then start your ascent in Arusha National Park. The first day of hiking is similar to a walking safari; you can expect to see giraffes, zebras, antelope, buffalo, and possibly elephants along the trail. Because of the high likelihood of encountering wildlife, an armed ranger hired by the National Park is required to accompany our team for the duration of the hike. As you continue hiking, you will come across the Ngarenanyuki River and a stunning waterfall at the foot of Mount Meru. Upon arrival at Miriakamba Hut (2500 m), your chef will prepare a hot dinner and provide you with washing water. Enjoy the beautiful sunset overnight.
