West Chenene Forest Reserve.

West Chenene Reserve with 29,836ha located in Bahi District, Dodoma region, is one of the very important catchment forest reserves in the Central Zone and Dodoma City.

The forest is characterized by hills and deep valleys with several permanent rivers such as Songambele, Lusinde, Muungano, Mapinduzi B, Mnase, Uswahilini, Ipata, Kwasu that are sources of water for wildlife, livestock, vegetable farms, and domestic uses.

The reserves are among the forests that are located closest to the Capital of Tanzania and its cool microclimate and thick forest depict the originals of the Dodoma region.

ECOTOURISM ATTRACTIONS

Chenene Forest Reserve has beautiful scenery, especially on the hills and mountain peaks at Mamboya and Busi. The plant’s rich diversity including spectacular ornamental trees and flowers, reptiles like lizards, snakes, monitor lizards, frogs, chameleons, insects, and butterflies are among the astonishing attractions on the site. The North highway that passes adjacent to the forest is among the supreme attractions on the site.

ACCESSIBILITY

The area is accessible either from the Capital City of Tanzania Dodoma about 50km or from Arusha city some 247km through the Great North Road.

Accommodation is available in several rest houses found in Kondoa Town.
