The Serengeti National Park lies in a protected ecosystem that spans northern Tanzania. The area includes approximately 30,000 square km of land, inclusive of the park and several game reserves. This UNESCO heritage park was named in the local Maasai language for its vast grasslands, which translates to “endless plains.” Although the region is known for its sweeping, grassy plains, it is rich in diverse habitats that range from riverine forests and woodlands to swamps and kopjes.
