Tanzania High-End Safari

Home » Tanzania Private Safari » Tanzania High-End Safari

Overview

high end Tanzania safari sells two things at the same time. The first is the wildlife, which is the same wildlife a budget traveller sees from the same parks. The second is everything around the wildlife: the bed you sleep in, the wine on the table at dinner, the silence at the sighting because there are no other vehicles within sight, the helicopter waiting to take you between camps, the host who knows your coffee order on day one. The price difference between a mid range Tanzania safari and a high end one is almost entirely the second category. That is not a criticism. For travellers who have stayed at the best hotels everywhere else and want the same standard in the bush, it is the entire point.

We are an Arusha based Tanzanian operator. High end is a tier we run alongside our mid range and luxury work. It is not most of our trips, but it is the tier where the operational details matter most: a missed flight connection that costs a budget client a day costs a high end client a once in a lifetime moment. The lodges we work with at this tier are operated by names most well travelled clients already know, and the relationships we hold with those reservations teams are what allow us to get rooms during peak demand when shorter routes are full.

Popular High-end Tanzania Safaris

What “Private Concession” and “Private Reserve” Actually Buy

Most of the genuine high end Tanzania safari product sits in private concessions and private reserves rather than national parks. The distinction matters because it explains the price.

The Grumeti reserve. A 350,000 acre private reserve adjacent to the western Serengeti, run under the Singita umbrella since the early 2000s. Inside the reserve, vehicle limits at sightings are strictly enforced. Walking safaris and night drives are permitted (illegal in the national park itself). The number of beds in the reserve is capped at a few hundred across all properties combined. The result: you can spend a morning at a leopard sighting with at most one other vehicle visible.

The Lamai wedge. A peninsula at the very northern edge of the Serengeti, between the Mara River and the Kenya border. During Mara River crossings (August to October), this is the premium positioning.

Klein’s concession. A 25,000 hectare private concession north of the Serengeti, accessible only to &Beyond Klein’s Camp guests. Walking safaris and night drives are part of the standard offering.

The honest tradeoff. Private concessions are not the public Serengeti. The migration goes through the Serengeti proper and the Mara River area; the rest of the year it is in southern Serengeti. If your priority is being inside the densest wildlife corridor in peak migration weeks, public Serengeti at top tier mobile camps (Sayari, Lamai Serengeti, Olakira) sometimes beats Singita on raw wildlife concentration.

The Fly In Safari: How High End Operations Actually Move Guests

Most high end Tanzania safaris are fly in safaris. Driving is rare at this tier; the time saved is the entire point.

Standard fly in pattern. International arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Connecting light aircraft from Arusha Airport (ARK) to a Serengeti airstrip (Sasakwa, Seronera, Lamai, Kogatende, Lobo, or Kuria depending on lodge). Subsequent flights between airstrips inside the Serengeti as you move between lodges. Final flight from a Serengeti airstrip to Zanzibar via Arusha for the beach extension.

Aircraft used. Cessna Caravans (12 to 14 seater) for scheduled flights. Pilatus PC 12 turboprops for private charters. Helicopters for short transfers between specific high end properties.

Luggage limits. 15 kilos per person in soft bags is the strict limit on light aircraft. Hard suitcases are refused at check in. The high end lodges have laundry included so packing for 10 days within 15 kilos is more achievable than first time clients expect.

What to budget for fly in. USD 1,200 to USD 2,500 per person for the standard scheduled fly in pattern across a Tanzania trip. Private charter Pilatus or helicopter transfers add USD 4,000 to USD 12,000 per leg. Helicopter scenic flights over the crater or Serengeti add USD 2,500 to USD 4,500 per hour.

Honest admission. The fly in safari is standard at high end tier, but driving still has merit. The drive from Ngorongoro Crater rim down to the Serengeti goes through some of the most dramatic landscape in East Africa. Some clients miss this entirely with fly in. We will sometimes recommend a hybrid: fly into and out of the Serengeti, but drive between the Crater and the Serengeti.

How High End Itineraries Actually Get Built

The shapes we run at high end tier.

7 day high end Tanzania safari. Three nights northern circuit (one Tarangire or Mwiba, one Ngorongoro Crater rim at &Beyond, one transition night), four nights Singita or comparable in Grumeti or Serengeti. The minimum that makes high end tier worth it.

10 day high end Tanzania safari. Four nights Serengeti split between two top tier camps in different ecosystems, three nights Grumeti, two nights Ngorongoro Crater rim or Highlands, transition night. Includes hot air balloon, walking safari in private concession, private bush dinner. The most common shape we sell.

12 day high end Tanzania safari. Adds southern Serengeti (Mwiba area for calving season in February) or Mara River area (Lamai for August to October crossings). Or extends into Ruaha, Selous, or Katavi.

14 day high end Tanzania plus Zanzibar. Four to five nights Zanzibar at properties like Mnemba Island, &Beyond Mnemba, or The Residence Zanzibar.

For honeymoon couples shopping high end. Our Tanzania honeymoon safari packages page covers the romance focused versions.

For travelers wanting ultra premium without migration emphasis. The Mwiba and Highlands combination (both Asilia properties) builds an itinerary around walking safaris, cultural visits, and high end lodges in dramatic but quieter settings.

Who Should Book a Tanzania High End Safari

The match between product and traveler at this tier matters more than at any other.

High end works for travelers who genuinely value private concessions and the activities they unlock. Walking safaris, night drives, off road driving in scenic locations.

High end works for milestone trips (50th wedding anniversaries, retirement trips, three generation family reunions). The lodges are designed around these moments.

High end works for honeymoon couples whose budget supports it. The romance touches at high end (private bush dinners with personal chef, helicopter sundowners, plunge pool rooms) are part of the standard offering.

Why Travel With Kiwoito Africa Safaris

We are a TATO member operator (Tanzania Association of Tour Operators), licensed by the Tanzania Tourist Board and accredited by TANAPA. Our office is on Fire Road in Arusha, with 200+ verified five star reviews on Tripadvisor and listings on Trustpilot, Safaribookings, and Petit Futé.

Our founder, Charles Moses, has worked in Tanzania tourism for more than 15 years. Our lead northern circuit guide Abuu has guided the Serengeti for over a decade and is the guide we send with most high end clients on the ground portion. Our team speaks English, French, Spanish, Italian, and German.

For high end specifically, our work is split between the lodge experience (which the lodges themselves run) and everything around it: airport transfers, cultural add ons, internal flight coordination, helicopter charters, ground vehicles for the parts not handled by the lodges, and the relationship with the lodge reservations teams that lets us hold rooms during peak demand. We have direct contact with reservations at Singita, &Beyond, Asilia, and the other major high end operators in Tanzania.

What we cover beyond high end. Our Tanzania luxury safari page covers the broader luxury market. Combined Kenya and Tanzania safari trips. Mount Kilimanjaro climbs through our trekking operation, and Zanzibar Island beach holidays.

What we will not do. We do not advertise mid tier as high end. We do not put high end clients in a public Serengeti lodge and call it private concession. We do not work with operators who cut corners on safety to compete on price.

Ready to Plan Your 2026 Tanzania High End Safari

If you have a 2026 high end safari in mind, the named top tier properties (Singita, &Beyond, Mwiba, Roving Bushtops) fill twelve to eighteen months in advance for July to October. Christmas and New Year sell out by early summer of the same year. The Singita Grumeti reserve specifically has a small bed count and the better dates lock up early.

You can request a custom high end safari quote and we will reply within 24 hours, usually faster, with a draft itinerary, current lodge availability, named lodge selections rather than tier descriptions, and an honest cost breakdown including which fly in legs are scheduled vs charter. We are based in Arusha, on Tanzania time (GMT+3).

At high end tier, the named property on day three is the trip; the duration is the frame around it.
